NCJT – HOF and Awards Dinner

New Date – December 16, 2021 at Pine Ridge

Each year we try to host a dinner to give out our season ending awards and honor some of former superstars with Hall of Fame inductions. It really makes for a special evening and the event is designed for all NCJT members to attend! This year we are rescheduling the awards dinner due to scheduling conflicts. August 12th was the original date and the new date with be Thursday, December 16 at Pine Ridge. Purchase Dinner Tickets HERE.

The season will end with our Tour Championship at Quail Hollow and shortly after that event we will post a report listing everyone that has earned a season ending award. Those awards will be presented at the HOF and Awards Dinner. Other award pickup and shipping options will be available for those that cannot attend the dinner presentations.

NCJT – Jim Dawson Match Play Championship

June 28-29 at Punderson

Par 72, 6600 Yards

Boys 16-19 Division

Antonio Bodziony defeated Jackson Stover (4&3) in the finals of the Boys 16-19 division. Antonio birdied #1 and Jackson birdie #2 to set the tone. On the fourth hole things started to unravel for Jackson, he three putted the 4th, hit OB on the #5, lost to a birdie on #6, three putted again on #7 and bogeyed #8 to lose five in a row to Antonio. Jackson won the next two holes to cut the lead to 3. They both birdied their 11th hole of the day. Antonio was able to move the lead back to 4 up with 5 to play. Jackson evenually ran out of holes and lost the match 4&3. This was Antonio’s second Match Play Championship.

Boys 15 & Under

Drew Torzok defeated Sven Nielsen (2&1) in the finals of the Boys 15 & Under division. This was a competitive match with plenty of fairways and greens hit by the two. Every hole came down to who can make their putt. Drew was 2 up with two to play and hit his second shot over the green on hole #8 (17th of the match), while Sven was eyeing a 10 foot birdie putt. Drew had a great chip from a tough spot over the green and sunk about a 3 foot putt to win the championship. That was a great performance by Drew!

Girls 19 & Under Division

Molly McGreal defeated Gracyn Vidovic (6&5) in the finals of the Girls 19 & Under division. Molly got off to a great start and a big lead in the final match. Gracyn fought hard to keep the match going, but it wasnt enough.

NCJT – JB Four-Ball Classic Cup

Wednesday, June 23, 2021

Quail Hollow CC – Par 71, 6,723

Antonio Bodziony and Thomas Priore finished strong to capture the JB Four-Ball Classic Cup by 3 strokes, but it was much tighter than the final score reflects. Bodziony/Priore bogeyed #1 while playing partners Tony Milam and Aidan McKito had tap-in birdie, so they started 2 back after the first hole. From there they played the remaining 8 holes on the front nine in 3 under and were tied at two under for the lead with Milam/McKito. On #10 Bodziony/Priore made bogey to fall one back, but from that point on they dominated as all others faded. They played the last 8 holes in 3 under par and they back-to-back birdies on the last two to seal the 3 stroke victory. They also tied the tournament record at 34-33–67 (-4). The only team that played steady all the way to the finish was Victor Prokop and Dominik Cosic with a 35-35—70. Prokop/Cosic had 5 birdies and really had a chance until the final hole, were they had a bogey to the Bodziony/Priore birdie. That 2 shoot swing created the 3 stroke victory, but they were only one stroke apart going to #18, so it was much closer that the final score shows. Congratulations to Antonio and Thomas, their names will be added to the JB Four-Ball Classic Cup.

NCJT – Four-Ball and Match Play

Next week we have two big events on the schedule.

The JB Four-Ball Classic at Quail Hollow on June 23

The JB Four-Ball Classic is a true golf classic.  Current and Former NCJT players are eligible to make up a team.  It’s a scratch event with no handicaps.  Only one player on the two-man Four-Ball team needs to be an NCJT player or Alumni, the other player can be anyone at any age.  We are hoping to build a reunion style golf classic that will mingle players from the past with players of today.  This will create a great spirit of golf that will cultivate year after year.

This event is named in memory of the late Mr. Jim Brown (founder and owner of the Classic Auto Group).  Jim Brown (JB) has been a long time supporter of Greater Cleveland golf and the North Coast Junior Tour.  Many in our community have benefited from contributions made by the Brown Family and we are pleased to honor JB with an event that will bring together young and old.  The annual winners will be added to the JB Four-Ball Classic trophy, making it a prestigious award. This event includes golf, cart, a breakfast box, a steak dinner and awards. Cost is $110 per player. Shotgun start at 10:30am. For more details Click Here.

Jim Dawson Match Play – Qualifier at Manakiki on June 22

All players wanting to play in the Match Play, other than exempt players, should be signed up for the Match Play Qualifier at Manakiki on June 22. By playing in the Qualifier, your Manakiki score will seed you into the Match Play Bracket for the Jim Dawson Match Play on June 28-29 at Punderson. If you cannot play in the Qualifier at Manakiki, then you can take your chances and sign-up for the Jim Dawson Match Play directly, however you must hope the bracket doesn’t become full with qualifiers and exempt players. It’s likely it won’t, but that can happen and that would eliminate you from the tournament. Both the Qualifier and the Match Play Event Information pages clearly outline the registration process, so hopefully all the non-exempt entries currently in the Match Play directly understand the circumstances.

Things to know about the Match Play registration:

  • Only one registration is required, either the Qualifier at Manakiki or the Match Play at Punderson (exempt players only)
  • To play in the Qualifier, you must signup for both the Manankiki event and the Qualifier on June 22
  • Qualifiers advance to the Match Play at Punderson without an additional entry (you only play the $65 once for the Match Play)
  • If you have entered incorrectly, please email us before 4pm on June 21 and we’ll correct it for you

On Tuesday at Lost Nation – we broke 4 hour golf again

Twice in first three events we have broke the 4 hour golf mark with the last flagstick in-the-hole for the last group of the field on the final hole. At Punderson our final flag in time was 3 hours, 48 minutes and at Lost Nation it was 3 hours and 36 minutes. Every time we break the 4 hour mark with the last flag stick of the field, the whole field at the next event receives a pack of Skittles. We call it “Skittles for Skedaddlers”. So, all players at Signature of Solon get Skittles for the Lost Nation performance tomorrow. Last year we set the tour record with seven under 4 hour events. Based on the great start, 2021 maybe another record setting year!
