Antonio Bodziony won the Boys 16-19 division by one stroke over Ben Clegg today at Little Mountain CC. Antonio was solid tee to green, hitting 13 of 18 greens, but his putter wasn’t matching up, he had 38 putts and his only one putt was on #1 (also his only birdie). Ben on the other hand only hit 3 greens and had 27 putts (9 one putts). Two completely different rounds, but only one stroke apart. Michael Olson played the last four holes 6 over, but still managed to take 3rd with an 83.
Liam Ottaway fired 34-42–76 (+4) to win the Boys 14-15 division, but he was also low round for all boys today at Little Mountain. This was Liam’s first win on NCJT. His round included 2 birdies, 5 bogeys and a double. He had 36 putts and only one 1 putt green. Dominik Cosic was 2nd with 80. Christopher Bridge and Connor Gdovin tied for 3rd with 82’s. Gdovin was only 4 over going to #16 and finish 8 over on the last 3 holes (ooch). Another highlight of day was Travis Johnson’s birdie on #12, he landed his tee shot about 6 feet from the hole and rolled in the putt for his first birdie on tour.
Lauren Bangasser won the Girls division with a 90. Lauren played steady and made one birdie on #14, however she signed for a par 3 on #15, which was a Wrong Score. Since the Wrong Score was higher than actually taken the score stands. If it were lower than actual it would have been a DQ. Nicole Betz shot a 98 and finished 2nd.
THE RULES LESSON: Lauren and her fellow competitor made the classic mistake of reading scores to each other after their round (a practice that is completely discouraged on tour). The number one cause of DQ’s on tour has been Wrong Score over the 27 year history. Almost all of the (estimate 100 plus DQ’s in tour history) were caused by reading scores out-loud without checking scores with the scorecard tab. The proper procedure is to sit at the scoring table and finish the hole-by-hole scores as the Marker, sign as the Marker, remove your tab with your scores and hand the card over to the player you marked for. Once each player has their card they should do a visible comparison of each hole from the tab to the actual scorecard. If the scores match, sign card and return to the committee. If scores are incorrect work it out with your Marker and/or fellow competitors if needed, once scores are correct, sign and return to the committee. No Reading = No Wrong Scores!
