NCJT – Tour Championship

7/29/2021 – 7/30/2021 @ Quail Hollow CC

Boys 16-19

Ajay Morris (Avondale, AZ) wins the Boys 16-19 division at Quail Hollow shooting 71-83–154 (+12). Ajay had a great opening round, shooting even par and enjoyed a big lead going into day 2, but he had a tough opening nine on day 2 which allowed James O’Neill (Beachwood) to take the lead going into the back nine. James had a one stroke lead going into hole 16, until Ajay made a 16 foot birdie putt to tied it up. On 17, James went long into the back bunker on his 2nd shot and made bogey. Ajay hit from the far left rough and his low runner ran to the back fringe, where he was able to two-putt for par and a one shot lead going to the final hole. On 18, both hit the green in two but Ajay ran his 30 foot downhiller about 10 feet past and three-putted for bogey. James had an easy two-putt to tied it and force a playoff. On the the first playoff hole James popped up his drive while Ajay hit a bomb down the middle. James played his second short of the green and nearly missed getting up and down. Ajay hit his second about 12 feet under the hole and had an easy two putt to win the championship. James shot 76-78–154 (+12) but lost on the first playoff hole to finish 2nd (18 Devlin). Grant Mylen (Cleveland Hts) finished in 3rd place with a score of 78-78–156 (+14).

Boys 15 & Under

Alec Miller (Shaker Hts) wins the Boys 15 & Under division at Quail Hollow with a score of 77-86–163 (+21). Alec had a good first round that gave him a nice lead going into day 2. He struggled to get anything going in round 2, only making an opening birdie but his overall play was enough to hold off Charlie Tzefronis (Pepper Pike) who shot 78-88–166 (+24). Aiden McKito (Willoughby) finished 3rd place with scores of 87-84–171 (+29).

Girls 19 & Under

Aaryanna Morris (Avondale, AZ) wins the Girls 19 & Under division with a score of 70-75–145 (+3). Aaryanna had a great first round, shooting -1 on the day. She was the only person in the field to shoot an under par round. She got off to a slow start in round 2, but she made 8 pars in a row on the back to hold off Ella Wong (Pepper Pike) who shot a score of 74-74–148 (+6). Ella made a total of three birdies for the champiomship. Gracyn Vidovic (Reminderville) finished 3rd place with scores of 91-90–181 (+39).

NCJT- Sandridge Junior I

North Coast Junior Tour – Sand Ridge Junior I
7/12-13/2021- Sand Ridge Golf Club
Par 72, 6330 Yards

Boys 16-19

Antonio Bodziony (Mentor) wins the Boys 16-19 division at Sand Ridge shooting 66-69–135 (-9). This was Antonio’s career low on tour and, he and the entire field had to play through some of the worst rain and wind we have seen on tour in years. Antonio, who plays for Lake Erie College, played two really solid rounds of golf, going bogey free for both days (even with a lost ball on #18 in round 1). He made a total of 9 birdies for the two days. Liam Ottaway (Pepper Pike) finished 2nd place shooting 69-72–141 (-3). Liam, who will be attending Rollins College this fall, kept the pressure on Antonio and cut the lead to 2 after making eagle on the par five 6th hole in round two. Antonio’s bogey-free march kept Liam at bay as he pulled away on the back 9. Jude Abbass (Aurora) finished 3rd place with a score of 74-71–145 (+1). Jude played well, making 4 birdies and a lot of pars.

Boys 15 & Under

Charlie Pollock (Chagrin Falls) wins the Boys 15 & Under division at Sand Ridge with a score of 74-81–155 (+11). Charlie didn’t make many mistakes throughout his rounds, which let him hold a steady lead over the rest of the field. He made a total of 4 birdies and that was enough to hold off Parker Barrett (Aurora) who finished 2nd place with a score of 83-76–159 (+15). Parker’s round of 83 included two holes with Wrong Scores which cost him 3 strokes in total. Both of the Wrong Scores signed for were higher than actually taken, and the higher score for the hole stands under Rule 3.3b. Reading off scores oppose to using your tab to visibly check scores was the cause of the error once again. We have had more than 100 Wrong Scores over the 30 year history of NCJT and 99% of the time ‘reading off scores to each other after the round has been the key link to making this mistake”. Parker is one of the few who survived Rule 3.3b, most sign for a lower score and they become Disqualified. Sven Nielson (Chagrin Falls) finished 3rd place with a score of 78-81–159 (+15).

Girls 19 & Under

Zoey Stern (Greenville,PA) wins the Girls 19 & Under division with a score of 83-87–170 (+26). Zoey had a good first day, making two birdies for her round and that was enough to hold a big lead and secure 1st place. Gracyn Vidovic (Reminderville) finished 2nd place with a score of 90-92–182 (+38).

NCJT – Drew Torzok wins Scholarship

Drew Torzok (Kirtland) was selected as the winner of the Denny Spaulding Golf Scholarship at the JR-4AM Scholarship Golf Classic at Sand Ridge on July 8th, 2021. Drew earned a $1,500 scholarship for being an outstanding student, a good tournament player and an all around great person. We are very proud of Drew and wish him well on his promising future.

The weather won the JR-4AM competition. The event started on time at 10 AM, but after 6 holes Sand Ridge was under thunderstorms and rain delays. At 1pm the chef had a great BBQ cookout ready for the field. After the delicious meal the field resumed play, but it was short lived… 2 holes later the sky’s were dark again and heavy rain washed out the remainder of the day. At the time the team leader was Team Stickler: Mike Stickler, Greg Eterovich, Thomas Wong, Ella Wong and Matt Blumenthal (JR), they were 7 under thru 8 holes. Three teams were at 6 under when it ended. The junior leader was Antonio Bodziony, who stood 1 under thru 8 holes. Dominik Cosic and Charlie Pollock were even par thru 8 holes too, so the competition in all divisions was lining up to be a good one.
