Gdovin wins at Chardon Lakes

Connor Gdovin (Highland Hts) managed well through the cool and rainy morning for a 35-38–73 (+2) at Chardon Lakes on Monday, July 22, 2019 to win the Boys 16-19 division. His round included 4 birdies, one double and 4 bogeys. He started on #10 and it took 5 holes to get his first par (birdie, double, birdie, bogey, then par). Connor’s 73 was 5 strokes better than Joey Kubic (Shaker Hts) and Richard Jacobs (North Palm Beach, FL) who finished tied for 2nd with 78’s. Joey didn’t have a birdie and Richard only had one birdie on the tough playing Chardon Lakes Golf Course.

Christopher Bridge (Shaker Hts) won a tight race in the Boys 14-15 with an 39-41–80 (+9). He beat Alex Ventimiglia (Aurora) by one stroke and Ajay Morris (Cortland) by two. Christopher just couldn’t get it going on his first nine with 41, which was played mostly in the rain. Then came par, birdie to start his 2nd nine, but that bright spot ended quickly with 2 bogeys and a triple over the next 4 holes. Alex started with a birdie, but he struggled through the rain, playing 9 over on the next 8 holes for a 44 on his first nine. He made an early birdie on the 2nd nine which helped him comeback with a 37 on his second nine 44-37–81 (+10). Ajay played solid with 41-41–82 (+11), except for the 4 double bogeys that were shattered throughout his scorecard.

Aaryanna Morris (Cortland) has big game and has been proving it with 2 wins over the last two tournaments she entered. Her winning round of 42-38–80 was produced by a wild up and down day. She only one par on her first nine of 42. She had 4 birdies and 4 doubles on the day, but only 5 pars in total. There were 3 players tied for 2nd at 88, Lauren Bangasser (Concord), Laine Hursh (Chardon) and Ella Wong (Pepper Pike).
