Quite an eventful day at the Women’s Ohio Amateur Championship today (7/9/2015). Halley Morrell won her semi-final match 4 & 3 against Cassie Pantelas, formerly of Massillon Jackson and now Seton Hall. Haylee Harford won her semi-final match 6 & 4 against Lexi Toth, formerly of Dublin Jerome and now Rollins College, setting up a North Coast Junior Tour Alumni Championship final. Halley won the first hole play was suspended for due to rain for 2+ hours. They were sent out in what turned out to be an almost all-round rain storm, with Halley and Haylee halfing 2, 3 & 4 before Halley sunk a birdie on Weymouth # 5 to go 2 up. Haylee birdied 6 and Halley rolled one in right on top to half the hole. Haylee won 7 & 9 and the two of them made the turn all-square. They traded 10 and 11 with Halley winning 10 and Haylee winning 11 before Halley won 12 to go up 1. They halved 13, 14, & 15 before Haylee won 16 to square up the match. Both of them left their approach shots short and right on 17 and Haylee led off by chipping in for birdie to take her first lead of the match one up. Both girls had birdie putts on 18 and both missed their birdies. Halley ran her putt about 5 feet past the hole and Haylee came up 3 feet short. Halley sunk her par putt and watched Haylee roll in her 3 footer to win the Women’s Ohio Amateur Championship. During their 2 + hour rain delay the two of them had lunch and spoke fondly of their early years on the North Coast Junior Tour where they first met. We all had fond memories of these two when they were 12, 13 & 14, and its always amazing to see where they are now. Congratulations to both Haylee and Halley…the Champion and the Runner-Up!
